This past weekend I went to a family reunion at my grandfather’s cousin’s house in Verplank, NY. The last one that I went to was when I was 5. They had a picture taken at that one and we were showing the older people who was who now 26 years later. It was great for them to be able to meet my new nephew (who is named after my grandfather Angelo) and catch up about the family.
This picture was taken at the property. That is a water spicket (no longer working) and an old barn. There also was a concrete wash basin to wash your clothes outside. I found out that the house was one of the first houses built in Verplank and was the only one at the time to have well water, so people would come and get water here. My relatives settled in Verplank because they were working at a quarry nearby.
Verplank, NY is a hamlet in the town of Cortlandt in Westchester County. It is home to the longest running Italian Feast in the Hudson Valley. This year was the 89th.
